Chico came to Lucky Bulldogs Rescue when he was released from the commercial dog breeding industry. The first few days in his foster home he would hide under tables and chairs, but after just a few days he realized, he didn’t have to do that anymore. When he meets new people, he has a timid reaction until he learns they are good, and then he warms up. He's definitely learning to love the pet life and with time, he's going to be the bestest boy.
Chico loves to play with his doggy toys, particularly the squeaky ball and his chew toys (he is still a young pup after all). If he has chew toys, he will not chew up your things, but he is still a puppy and may need some redirection at first to learn what is a toy and what isn’t. He loves running in the yard with his three-year-old foster human, he loves to be chased with his squeaky ball and to have it thrown and go after it. Chico is very docile with kids. When he is outside, he sometimes gets the zoomies and will run fast, it’s heartwarming to see him that happy. He has a cute bark (gruff for his petite size) and will sometimes *talk* to dogs that he hears. When Chico is outside, he will chase after rabbits and chipmunks, so a fenced yard or leashed time outside is required. When outside, you should keep a close eye on him because he likes to find sticks and chew them up, he is still learning that sticks are not snacks.
Chico is somewhat crate trained, most dogs that come from commercial breeders like their crate a lot, but when Chico is in there he whines and barks a lot. He prefers to be gated in the kitchen or living area when alone so he has more room to roam and look out the windows, but with time and consistency he should find his crate comfortable and settle right in. He is fine sleeping alone in a doggy bed but would prefer to sleep in the room with you (if in the bed, better! He loves to cuddle). He may release the occasional bark to some loud noise, but quickly settles back down. Chico is potty trained if he gets regular potty breaks. He has also learned to go up three steps on his own, he is still learning how to go down the steps. He is also still learning how to walk on a leash, I’m sure with more practice he will be a pro. He really enjoys going for strolls in his doggy stroller too.
Chico has a very sweet and docile personality; he loves all the pets and cuddles; he will follow you everywhere. His perfect family would have a fenced yard to play, would allow him on furniture to cuddle/nap, and be home as much as possible, Chico likes being around his people. Chico would do fine as an only pet or with another fur sibling, he would also be fine with or without kids. Healthwise, Chico has no issues that we know of. He has been neutered and is up to date on all vaccinations and is microchipped.

While in foster care, all our dogs are thoroughly vetted. Any discovered medical issues will be disclosed above. Our Lucky Bulldogs (and their smushie-faced buddies) are cleared by their vet for adoption prior to us accepting applications. All our dogs will be up to date on Rabies & DHPP vaccinations, up to date on Heartworm preventative after a negative Heartworm test, and spayed or neutered prior to being adopted out to their forever homes. Often times, our dogs are given dentals and sometimes nare-widening surgery if needed while under anesthesia. All surgical and medical history we have will be shared with adopters. Further details can be discussed with the foster volunteer during the phone interview for the applications that are chosen to proceed to the phone interview part of the adoption process.
All our dogs are crate trained unless otherwise noted on their "All About" pages.
We typically will accept applications for our available dogs for 1-2 weeks except in cases of overwhelming popularity where we may stop accepting new applicants sooner. Once we have stopped accepting applications, we will review them and proceed with a phone call with our top applications to chat about the dog being applied for, go over the adoption process, and answer any questions the potential adopter has. After phone calls take place, we will decide on our top applicant choice and proceed to contact them to schedule a home visit (in person or via video chat), and check vet and personal references before the adoption is ready to be completed. This process can take up to 6 weeks, but we do notify all applicants of the outcome.
