Meet Basil, a petite little Frenchie who has discovered that life outside an apartment has some pretty fantastic perks. Grass? Excellent. Stairs? Nailed them. Other animals? Still working on that whole “how exactly do I play with you?” thing. 😂

Basil came to Lucky Bulldogs Rescue after her previous family found themselves unprepared for the medical care and ongoing expense that can come with French Bulldog ownership. When Basil began struggling with environmental allergies, they were no longer able to keep up with the care she needed. We’re so happy this little lady is now getting the support she deserves and the chance to find a family who understands that sometimes loving a Frenchie comes with a little extra maintenance.

At her foster home, Basil has been an absolute delight. She is potty trained, kennel trained, and wonderfully well behaved in her crate, where she is quiet as a mouse. She is also an excellent leash walker, which is particularly impressive for a dog who has apparently decided that every new adventure deserves a thorough investigation. 🐾

Basil is still learning the finer points of being a social butterfly. She desperately wants to play with people and other animals, but she’s not always quite sure what the proper etiquette is. She’s learning, though, and doing wonderfully as she discovers all the new sights, sounds, smells and experiences that come with her foster home.

And when she’s not busy exploring? She wants to be your shadow. Basil will happily follow her people around, supervise whatever you're doing, and position herself strategically in hopes that someone remembers the importance of frequent belly rubs.

She also has a very specific beverage preference:

💧 ICE WATER.

Not room temperature. Not merely cool. ICE. WATER.
Basil believes hydration should be refreshing and crunchy and has no problem reminding you when the service is inadequate. 😂

Basil has been diagnosed with environmental skin allergies and receives monthly Cytopoint injections to keep her comfortable. Her allergies will require lifelong management, which may include monthly injections or daily medication depending on what works best for her and the season. Regular skin care, including oatmeal-based baths and Omega-3 & 6 supplementation, can also help keep her skin healthy. When properly managed, dogs with allergies can live completely happy, active, normal lives, and Basil is proof that an allergy diagnosis does not have to define a dog.

What Basil really needs is a family who understands and can afford her medical needs, is committed to keeping her allergies under control, and is ready to spoil this tiny girl with all the belly rubs, adventures, toys and ice water her little heart desires.

She may be small, but Basil has plenty of love to hand out. 💚

While in foster care, all our dogs are thoroughly vetted.  Any discovered medical issues will be disclosed above.  Our Lucky Bulldogs (and their smushie-faced buddies) are cleared by their vet for adoption prior to us accepting applications.  All our dogs will be up to date on Rabies & DHPP vaccinations, up to date on Heartworm preventative after a negative Heartworm test, and spayed or neutered prior to being adopted out to their forever homes.  Often times, our dogs are given dentals and sometimes nare-widening surgery if needed while under anesthesia. All surgical and medical history we have will be shared with adopters.  Further details can be discussed with the foster volunteer during the phone interview for the applications that are chosen to proceed to the phone interview part of the adoption process.

All our dogs are crate trained unless otherwise noted on their "All About" pages. 

We typically will accept applications for our available dogs for 1-2 weeks except in cases of overwhelming popularity where we may stop accepting new applicants sooner. Once we have stopped accepting applications, we will review them and proceed with a phone call with our top applications to chat about the dog being applied for, go over the adoption process, and answer any questions the potential adopter has. After phone calls take place, we will decide on our top applicant choice and proceed to contact them to schedule a home visit (in person or via video chat), and check vet and personal references before the adoption is ready to be completed. This process can take up to 6 weeks, but we do notify all applicants of the outcome.
