    All About Bruiser

    Name: Bruiser

    Breed: Pug/Boston terrier mix

    Age: 10

    Adoption Fee: $150

    Sex: M

    Weight: 19.4lbs

    Foster Location: Davenport, Iowa

Cats: We haven't tested him, but his former owner reports he is ok with them.

Kids: Maybe some older ones... He can be a little mouthy when he plays.

Other Dogs: Ones who aren't intimidated by his small stature (read: small dog syndrome - gets possessive and mouthy when he wants his way.)

House Trained: Yes, with the exception of a rare "spite pee."

Demeanor: Lovable, cuddly, spicy, snorty, playful

Energy Level: Medium to low...short bursts of playfulness or begging for second or third dinner, but otherwise sleepy, snore-y, snuggly.

Health Issues: Vet said he's "a little on the chubby side," otherwise, he's in great health for his age.

Behavioral Issues: Aforementioned possessiveness, rough play, mouthy-ness, spite-peeing.

    A Bit More About Bruiser

Bruiser joined the rescue through no fault of his own when his family could not take him with to their new home.  At 10 years young, Bruiser is already family pet!   He comes fully loaded with all of the pet perks such as walking on a leash and being kennel trained.  He is is neutered and up to date on vaccinations as well.

Bruiser is full of quirky personality!  He knows exactly where he wants to sit for car rides and has no shame crawling over the console to get to his spot! He's house trained and loves his fenced in backyard at foster mama's. He usually lets out an exuberant bark after he poops. (So proud!!) He'd do better with either no kids or sturdy/older kids as he rough-houses with his teeth a little too much. He can hold his own with the big dogs, as long as they realize who's really the boss (spoiler alert, it's Bruiser). Speaking of being the boss, he loves to give his stuffed toys a hard time, just so they remember who's running the show. (He's worried they're talking trash about how his tongue is always hanging out.) He's very (too) interested in trash cans, cabinets, and the inside of the fridge. Don't give in to his penchant for lounging like a crotchety old man in the kitchen, giving you the side eye, and demanding extra meals, treats, and snacks. He is a PRO at the "kennel up" command, and he will do a pug scream when he wants to be let out! He's spunky and enjoys a fair amount of play time, balanced with sweetly sleeping curled up (must be touching you) and snoring on the couch. The couch cuddling is made even more perfect by the fact that he has The Softest Fur(TM). Overall, Bruiser has a sweet & spicy personality and he's going to make someone very happy

    The Basics...

While in foster care, all our dogs are thoroughly vetted.  Any discovered medical issues will be disclosed above.  Our Lucky Bulldogs (and their smushie-faced buddies) are cleared by their vet for adoption prior to us accepting applications.  All our dogs will be up to date on Rabies & DHPP vaccinations, up to date on Heartworm preventative after a negative Heartworm test, and spayed or neutered prior to being adopted out to their forever homes.  Often times, our dogs are given dentals and sometimes nare-widening surgery if needed while under anesthesia. All surgical and medical history we have will be shared with adopters.  Further details can be discussed with the foster volunteer during the phone interview for the applications that are chosen to proceed to the phone interview part of the adoption process.

All our dogs are crate trained unless otherwise noted on their "All About" pages.

We typically will accept applications for our available dogs for 1-2 weeks except in cases of overwhelming popularity where we may stop accepting new applicants sooner. Once we have stopped accepting applications, we will review them and proceed with a phone call with our top applications to chat about the dog being applied for, go over the adoption process, and answer any questions the potential adopter has. After phone calls take place, we will decide on our top applicant choice and proceed to contact them to schedule a home visit (in person or via video chat), and check vet and personal references before the adoption is ready to be completed. This process can take up to 6 weeks, but we do notify all applicants of the outcome.
