Name: Bubs
Breed: English Bulldog
Age: 9
Sex: Male
Adoption Fee: $150
Weight: 59 pounds
Foster Location: Kansas City, MO
Cats: Never lived with cats - unknown
Kids: Never met kids, but has been very friendly to all strangers. He gets excited, but not overly pushy.
Other Dogs: Has lived with 2 other dogs, but met many others. Was with up to 8 dogs at a time due to pet sitting family dogs. Always got along, and if he was pushy or humpy, took corrections from them very well.
House Trained: Has been mostly house trained other than the occasional accident, specifically on dog beds. Only happened a hand full of times in the few months I've had him. Does well with routine.
Demeanor: Even though he's a senior, he's an excitable guy and loves his people. Loves to play and rough house.
Energy Level: Low-energy level, and likes to relax with his people.
Health Issues: Has some arthritis in his joints and will sometimes have a limp after some activity or getting up after laying down for a while.
Behavioral Issues: Overall he has been a very friendly guy. He has never shown any aggression with dogs or with us in the home. He has met many strangers, and enjoyed meeting new friends. While he is crate trained, he does not love being in the crate and may bark if alone at times. May also pee in the crate if there are blankets in it, but when he has nothing he keeps everything clean and has no issue holding it overnight when he sleeps with us upstairs in the bedroom. He has typically slept in a dog bed next to our bed, as well as the other dogs.
Overall, Bubs is a happy-go-lucky type of guy! He enjoys his people and will follow you anywhere. He enjoys being in the presence of the other dogs, and has even been with up to 8 dogs due to pet sitting for some family and got along with everyone. He prefers to coexist, but may get excited or humpy when first meeting, but doesn't last long. He loves to give you butt wiggles when you get home, or when he comes in from a potty break. He always knows how to have a good time, and if left to his own devices in the yard he likes to sit in the patio chairs to overlook the yard. I have dogs on both sides of my fence (as well as chickens), and he doesn't pay them any mind.
While in rescue, Bubs had Entropion surgery repair to both eyes, and had a dental w/ extractions. Overall, he is very healthy for his age. He does have some mild arthritis and may be slow to get up or limp a bit after laying down for a long time.
Bubs would love nothing more than to follow around his favorite people, maybe with a dog friend or two for those times that he is by himself at home. He makes an awesome side kick, and can hold down the couch right next to you!
While in foster care, all our dogs are thoroughly vetted. Any discovered medical issues will be disclosed above. Our Lucky Bulldogs (and their smushie-faced buddies) are cleared by their vet for adoption prior to us accepting applications. All our dogs will be up to date on Rabies & DHPP vaccinations, up to date on Heartworm preventative after a negative Heartworm test, and spayed or neutered prior to being adopted out to their forever homes. Often times, our dogs are given dentals and sometimes nare-widening surgery if needed while under anesthesia. All surgical and medical history we have will be shared with adopters. Further details can be discussed with the foster volunteer during the phone interview for the applications that are chosen to proceed to the phone interview part of the adoption process.
All our dogs are crate trained unless otherwise noted on their "All About" pages.
We typically will accept applications for our available dogs for 1-2 weeks except in cases of overwhelming popularity where we may stop accepting new applicants sooner. Once we have stopped accepting applications, we will review them and proceed with a phone call with our top applications to chat about the dog being applied for, go over the adoption process, and answer any questions the potential adopter has. After phone calls take place, we will decide on our top applicant choice and proceed to contact them to schedule a home visit (in person or via video chat), and check vet and personal references before the adoption is ready to be completed. This process can take up to 6 weeks, but we do notify all applicants of the outcome.
