Gretchen joined Lucky Bulldogs after being released from the commercial dog breeding industry. She had never been a pet before, but her young age was in her favor, and she is living her best pet life. She's cute as can be with her two bottom teeth perfectly centered and perfectly out of line with the others. Her cuteness even earned her a spot in the 2026 Dad Bods and Rescue Dogs calendar. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for your chance to order your calendar around Black Friday.
Gretchen is a typical Frenchie in that she loves to cuddle, snuggle, snort, and sniff. She loves to chase a tennis ball in the back yard and then run the fence with her two very barky foster siblings. She thinks it is great fun to run with them, but she very rarely barks. Good girl, Gretchen! She's actually very quiet most of the time, she's not even that snorty, but if you bust out the nail clippers, then she is doing her best to sound like a dying walrus yodeling with a sore throat. It's actually pretty impressive to be honest. She will take some time, training, and maybe drugs to learn to get her nails clipped without screaming, but she's a smart girl, so we have hope!
Gretchen gets along well with the other dogs in her foster home, but can be a bit jealous if Foster Ma is snuggling someone else. She would do best in a home with laid back dogs who don't mind a sister who thinks she knows what is best. It seems to only be during Mama snuggles, the rest of the time she can be found playing with the other dogs and even snuggling them on the dog bed. She has never met a cat, but Foster Ma thinks it would be best to not have a cat in the house for everyone's sake.
Gretchen has met lots of people, young and old, and she loves everyone. She loves to give kisses and sometimes does a thing call "Corn Nibbling" to earlobes. Think of your earlobe as an ear of corn and Gretchen is trying to eat it, but it's oh so gentle and sweet. That sounds fun, doesn't it? If not, this is a behavior that can be corrected. Foster Ma tells her not to do it, but she just cannot help herself, the lure of the earlobes is just too strong!
Gretchen is kennel trained, sleeps in the kennel at night, but would LOVE to sleep in bed with you. She walks well on leash and loves to go for walks. She's got a quick paced prancing trot that is just too darn cute.
Gretchen has a sensitive tummy and does best eating a limited ingredient diet. She's currently eating Nutro Salmon and Lentils and has freeze-dried salmon for treats. She has the most successful 'number twos' if kept to this limited ingredient diet.
If you have read this far, congratulations! We just can't say enough good things about Gretchen. If you're up to sticking to a diet, going for walks, and throwing a tennis ball, then apply today!
While in foster care, all our dogs are thoroughly vetted. Any discovered medical issues will be disclosed above. Our Lucky Bulldogs (and their smushie-faced buddies) are cleared by their vet for adoption prior to us accepting applications. All our dogs will be up to date on Rabies & DHPP vaccinations, up to date on Heartworm preventative after a negative Heartworm test, and spayed or neutered prior to being adopted out to their forever homes. Often times, our dogs are given dentals and sometimes nare-widening surgery if needed while under anesthesia. All surgical and medical history we have will be shared with adopters. Further details can be discussed with the foster volunteer during the phone interview for the applications that are chosen to proceed to the phone interview part of the adoption process.
All our dogs are crate trained unless otherwise noted on their "All About" pages.
We typically will accept applications for our available dogs for 1-2 weeks except in cases of overwhelming popularity where we may stop accepting new applicants sooner. Once we have stopped accepting applications, we will review them and proceed with a phone call with our top applications to chat about the dog being applied for, go over the adoption process, and answer any questions the potential adopter has. After phone calls take place, we will decide on our top applicant choice and proceed to contact them to schedule a home visit (in person or via video chat), and check vet and personal references before the adoption is ready to be completed. This process can take up to 6 weeks, but we do notify all applicants of the outcome.
