Hugo is ready to be adopted, and he's definitely excited to meet his people! You can always find Hugo staying close to his people and their guests, he loves saying hi to everyone around him! He also loves playing with toys, chewing bones, and going for leisurely walks on the beach, errr sidewalk.
Hugo is a 5-year-old Frenchie who has been working through potty-training. Since he's a little inexperienced with the concept, you may have to keep a close eye and keep a tight routine to help him out. He likes to take his time when going potty. Make sure to give him plenty of time to pee multiple times outside if you don't want a surprise later. While learning how to potty outside like a big boy, Hugo has worn diapers in the house to keep our home mess free. He is doing better every day.
As much as he loves being with his people, he loves to nap too! Hugo naps hard and loudly with his snoring so make sure you have a nice place to sleep nearby. We've been keeping him in kennels for the most part at night, and he's adjusted well!
Hugo has a little bit of a hard time seeing due to having a condition called Dry Eye. This is easily managed with daily eye drops and he does well taking them. Don't fret, he can still see, just not well. So, he likes to stick close to his people to not lose his way. Despite that, he's curious and sure takes his time to stop and smell the roses on walks.
So far, we haven't noticed any allergies that he's been prone to, and we've kept him on a mix of lamb and rice mix through Diamond Natural. We haven't noticed a single issue with him eating beside his hunger for people-food, and an occasional smelly fart.
One thing's for sure, Hugo is a loving and clingy dog that is SURE to let you know how much he loves you! If you don't mind a happy smile and an excited jump or two, I'd say Hugo might be for you!
While in foster care, all our dogs are thoroughly vetted. Any discovered medical issues will be disclosed above. Our Lucky Bulldogs (and their smushie-faced buddies) are cleared by their vet for adoption prior to us accepting applications. All our dogs will be up to date on Rabies & DHPP vaccinations, up to date on Heartworm preventative after a negative Heartworm test, and spayed or neutered prior to being adopted out to their forever homes. Often times, our dogs are given dentals and sometimes nare-widening surgery if needed while under anesthesia. All surgical and medical history we have will be shared with adopters. Further details can be discussed with the foster volunteer during the phone interview for the applications that are chosen to proceed to the phone interview part of the adoption process.
All our dogs are crate trained unless otherwise noted on their "All About" pages.
We typically will accept applications for our available dogs for 1-2 weeks except in cases of overwhelming popularity where we may stop accepting new applicants sooner. Once we have stopped accepting applications, we will review them and proceed with a phone call with our top applications to chat about the dog being applied for, go over the adoption process, and answer any questions the potential adopter has. After phone calls take place, we will decide on our top applicant choice and proceed to contact them to schedule a home visit (in person or via video chat), and check vet and personal references before the adoption is ready to be completed. This process can take up to 6 weeks, but we do notify all applicants of the outcome.
