Madge joined Lucky Bulldogs Rescue after retiring from the commercial dog breeding industry. She’s approximately five years old and had spent those first years having no clue what being a dog and pet was truly like. When she first arrived, she was quite withdrawn and unsure of her foster family. Since then, she has come out of her shell and enjoys playing with her foster brothers and even hanging out with the family cat! She trusts and loves her people and is ready to be your snuggle buddy.
She is the easiest little potato to have around; she always wants to be near you. She does great with all people, all dogs and cats, so you could even go so far as to call her a sweet potato. Sorry, pun intended. Madge is easy, sweet, and quiet too! You only hear her voice when she wants to be on the bed, and you aren’t moving fast enough, HA! As perfect as Madge is, she does come with some special needs. She is slightly lame in her back legs. She sways slightly when she stands still. She walks normally, runs, and even climbs stairs, but not too many stairs. Her future home should have very few to no stairs. She has had an X-ray on her spine, and the veterinarian did not find any injuries that would be related to the weakness in her back legs. The veterinarian speculated it could be from living her life in a small cage, and her muscle tone just isn’t where it should be. Now that she is living the pet life and getting a lot of good nutrition and exercise, her muscle tone may improve. It may not, though, and her future family should be willing to accept her unique issue.
Madge has been doing great with potty training and loves exploring the outside. She hasn’t quite figured out how to tell us when it’s time to ‘go,’ but with time, consistency, and routine, she should find success in her new home. Madge is spayed, has had her teeth cleaned, and is vaccinated. Her ideal home would be quiet and relaxed. If there are children, they should be dog-savvy and gentle due to her hind end issue. She told me she’d love to live in a home where she can soak up all the attention, love, and pets she deserves and didn’t know she was missing these past five years.
While in foster care, all our dogs are thoroughly vetted. Any discovered medical issues will be disclosed above. Our Lucky Bulldogs (and their smushie-faced buddies) are cleared by their vet for adoption prior to us accepting applications. All our dogs will be up to date on Rabies & DHPP vaccinations, up to date on Heartworm preventative after a negative Heartworm test, and spayed or neutered prior to being adopted out to their forever homes. Often times, our dogs are given dentals and sometimes nare-widening surgery if needed while under anesthesia. All surgical and medical history we have will be shared with adopters. Further details can be discussed with the foster volunteer during the phone interview for the applications that are chosen to proceed to the phone interview part of the adoption process.
All our dogs are crate trained unless otherwise noted on their "All About" pages.
We typically will accept applications for our available dogs for 1-2 weeks except in cases of overwhelming popularity where we may stop accepting new applicants sooner. Once we have stopped accepting applications, we will review them and proceed with a phone call with our top applications to chat about the dog being applied for, go over the adoption process, and answer any questions the potential adopter has. After phone calls take place, we will decide on our top applicant choice and proceed to contact them to schedule a home visit (in person or via video chat), and check vet and personal references before the adoption is ready to be completed. This process can take up to 6 weeks, but we do notify all applicants of the outcome.
