Hi! My name is Shelby. I am a small bundle of Frenchie love! Weighing in at a mere 19.5 pounds, I have the attitude of a big dog with the body of a puppy. And boy, do I like hoomans!!! I love being at home with people. I love running, playing with my small foster siblings, and cuddling with my hoomans.
I am fostered in a fully fenced yard but will wander the perimeter looking for an escape hatch to what lies beyond! (Especially the mortal enemy, squirrels!) So, a home with a secure fenced yard or someone able to walk me to potty would be best. I am kennel trained and do very well in my kennel. I love to snuggle and don't want to sleep nights in my kennel, but I will if you make me. If you let me sleep with you, be warned, I like to snuggle right next to my hooman, under the covers.
When I joined the rescue, I had some rashy skin, but I am healing up perfectly. The vet isn't quite sure what caused the rash, but depending on the time of year, I may benefit from a daily Zyrtec. High-quality food with good ingredients may have helped my skin as well. My family should plan on using what I am eating or finding something similar because the cheaper stuff doesn't agree with me.
I am good at taking baths and even getting my nails clipped. I am housebroken and haven't had one single accident in my foster home. I know the commands "come," "sit," and "stay." I am sure the right hooman could finish training me on some other commands or tricks. My foster family says I am a smartie.
I can be dominant with other dogs at times. I like to show my foster siblings who is in charge sometimes (in case they forget), but my foster mom says it's not very ladylike. A home with submissive or easy-going dogs would be best.
Are you looking for a small snuggle monster who will be your best friend and follow you around everywhere? Then you've found her.
While in foster care, all our dogs are thoroughly vetted. Any discovered medical issues will be disclosed above. Our Lucky Bulldogs (and their smushie-faced buddies) are cleared by their vet for adoption prior to us accepting applications. All our dogs will be up to date on Rabies & DHPP vaccinations, up to date on Heartworm preventative after a negative Heartworm test, and spayed or neutered prior to being adopted out to their forever homes. Often times, our dogs are given dentals and sometimes nare-widening surgery if needed while under anesthesia. All surgical and medical history we have will be shared with adopters. Further details can be discussed with the foster volunteer during the phone interview for the applications that are chosen to proceed to the phone interview part of the adoption process.
All our dogs are crate trained unless otherwise noted on their "All About" pages.
We typically will accept applications for our available dogs for 1-2 weeks except in cases of overwhelming popularity where we may stop accepting new applicants sooner. Once we have stopped accepting applications, we will review them and proceed with a phone call with our top applications to chat about the dog being applied for, go over the adoption process, and answer any questions the potential adopter has. After phone calls take place, we will decide on our top applicant choice and proceed to contact them to schedule a home visit (in person or via video chat), and check vet and personal references before the adoption is ready to be completed. This process can take up to 6 weeks, but we do notify all applicants of the outcome.
