    A Bit More About Smidge

Smidge is an approximately four or five-year-old former mama from a commercial breeding operation, now learning what it means to be a loved pet for the very first time. She’s a small dog with a gentle soul, and she brings a quiet, calming presence to her foster home. Soft beds and cozy corners are her happy places, especially if her favorite human is close by.

Smidge is passive and sweet-natured. She’s never once showed a hint of aggression toward her foster parent or foster dog sibling. She generally gets along well with other dogs and adults. She hasn’t been tested with kids or cats yet, but her demeanor is so mild that a gentle introduction could go well with dog savvy kids and/or cats.

Smidge has some vision impairment and struggles to see in dim lighting. Stairs are also a challenge for her. She’ll require daily medicated eye drops for the rest of her life. She doesn’t love them, but she’s learning to tolerate them with kindness and patience. She may also be hard of hearing… or possibly just charmingly selective in what she chooses to respond to. She’s still working on potty training, but with a smidge of patience we know she’ll get it. She’s not a fan of crates or car rides, and she prefers her food softened due to a lack of teeth.

Despite everything she’s been through, Smidge is curious, loyal, and stronger than she looks—both physically and emotionally. She would do best in a calm, predictable home with someone who’s around often and willing to go slow as she continues to build trust and confidence. Smidge may be new to the good life, but with the right person, she’s going to thrive.

    The Basics...

While in foster care, all our dogs are thoroughly vetted.  Any discovered medical issues will be disclosed above.  Our Lucky Bulldogs (and their smushie-faced buddies) are cleared by their vet for adoption prior to us accepting applications.  All our dogs will be up to date on Rabies & DHPP vaccinations, up to date on Heartworm preventative after a negative Heartworm test, and spayed or neutered prior to being adopted out to their forever homes.  Often times, our dogs are given dentals and sometimes nare-widening surgery if needed while under anesthesia. All surgical and medical history we have will be shared with adopters.  Further details can be discussed with the foster volunteer during the phone interview for the applications that are chosen to proceed to the phone interview part of the adoption process.

All our dogs are crate trained unless otherwise noted on their "All About" pages.

We typically will accept applications for our available dogs for 1-2 weeks except in cases of overwhelming popularity where we may stop accepting new applicants sooner. Once we have stopped accepting applications, we will review them and proceed with a phone call with our top applications to chat about the dog being applied for, go over the adoption process, and answer any questions the potential adopter has. After phone calls take place, we will decide on our top applicant choice and proceed to contact them to schedule a home visit (in person or via video chat), and check vet and personal references before the adoption is ready to be completed. This process can take up to 6 weeks, but we do notify all applicants of the outcome.
