Hi! I am Spud and I am so very pleased to meet you! I am a happy-go-lucky guy with a big personality and the cutest little squeaks (according to my foster parents). Speaking of them, aren’t humans, like, the coolest? I love them in all shapes, sizes, and ages and I have never met a stranger in my life. Foster mom likes to say I popped out of the kennel and bunny-hopped my way right into their hearts. I came to Lucky Bulldogs from a commercial breeder looking for a fresh starch (see what I did there? Starch - like a potato?), but that life is behind me now and I can’t wait to find my forever home!
My new life looks a whole lot different than before. I have a foster brother now and I think he is the coolest guy ever. I love following him all over the house and doing exactly what he is doing, even when I get in his way. Sometimes he corrects me if I get a little too close, but that doesn’t stop me from wanting to be his best friend. You could even say we go together like potatoes and gravy! Oh, you thought the potato puns would stop? Foster brother has already helped me learn sit, go outside, and kennel-up! If my new house had another dog to help me keep learning the ropes, I think that would be absolutely Spud-tacular!
My favorite things to do since becoming a foster dog are snuggling in my dog bed, watching the TV with my foster family, and chasing after my favorite tennis ball! I also love to explore my house as much as possible and will go anywhere you let my little feet take me - okay sometimes I also go where I am not supposed to…oops! Don’t worry though, anytime I get into trouble, I just flash my under bite and give ‘em a little squeak and the humans are back to putty in my hands. I love to go outside in the backyard because when I come back in, I get treats which are my favorite. Apparently, I am only supposed to get treats when I go potty outside, but running out and touching the grass and then sprinting back should count too! Speaking of going potty outside, I am trying my best to have no accidents in the house and even ring a bell when I have to go, but we all have accidents sometimes. The best way to keep the house accident free is to learn my signals and let me out regularly.
Foster mom said I was more of a Russet when I met her, but with only eating at breakfast and dinner time now, I am more like a Fingerling potato. I’m all about body pawsitivity (I don’t only have potato puns!) but staying fit helps me breathe! I used to
have a lot of trouble with my breathing which made it hard to play and go for talks, but the vet did a procedure called a BOAS and now I am breathing like a hamp! Because I still have a bit of reflux, I do take Omeprazole every day and my foster parents make sure I wait at least 30 minutes before I do any serious playing after I eat.
Are you and I a mash made in heaven? Okay, I promise I will stop with the puns now! I am so very excited to find my forever family, could it be you?
While in foster care, all our dogs are thoroughly vetted. Any discovered medical issues will be disclosed above. Our Lucky Bulldogs (and their smushie-faced buddies) are cleared by their vet for adoption prior to us accepting applications. All our dogs will be up to date on Rabies & DHPP vaccinations, up to date on Heartworm preventative after a negative Heartworm test, and spayed or neutered prior to being adopted out to their forever homes. Often times, our dogs are given dentals and sometimes nare-widening surgery if needed while under anesthesia. All surgical and medical history we have will be shared with adopters. Further details can be discussed with the foster volunteer during the phone interview for the applications that are chosen to proceed to the phone interview part of the adoption process.
All our dogs are crate trained unless otherwise noted on their "All About" pages.
We typically will accept applications for our available dogs for 1-2 weeks except in cases of overwhelming popularity where we may stop accepting new applicants sooner. Once we have stopped accepting applications, we will review them and proceed with a phone call with our top applications to chat about the dog being applied for, go over the adoption process, and answer any questions the potential adopter has. After phone calls take place, we will decide on our top applicant choice and proceed to contact them to schedule a home visit (in person or via video chat), and check vet and personal references before the adoption is ready to be completed. This process can take up to 6 weeks, but we do notify all applicants of the outcome.
