Through no fault of her own, Tootsie has rejoined Lucky Bulldogs Rescue. Originally, Tootsie joined the rescue after being released from the commercial dog breeding industry, and living in the house with people was new to her. She wasn't quite sure what to do and spent a lot of time in her kennel just observing us and her foster siblings. With time, consistency, and love, Tootsie has learned the joys of pet life. She loves to lay in the sun on the patio, sit on stuffed animals in her kennel, chew bones, and shamelessly beg for snacks while Foster Ma eats. Speaking of food, Tootsie knows the dulcet tones of the treat bag crinkling and will come running from wherever she may be. That's when she becomes the Land Shark Pig Baby. I am sure you can picture her wide-open jaws and bugged-out eyes, but can you also imagine the snorting and grunting? It's truly a delight to experience. She leaves the Land Shark title at the door while taking the treat. She becomes a delicate lady and gently takes the treat from our hands.
Tootsie is sweet, kind, and quiet. (Except when she hears the treat bag, HA!) She is slow to warm up to new people, but once she does, she loves chin scratches and will even turn around for booty scratches. New visitors and loud noises may give Tootsie a reason to retreat to her kennel, but after observing quietly for a bit, she will choose when to rejoin the room when she sees fit. Aside from her thoughtful retreats, she is the silliest of girls. We have started calling her Gremlin Girl as she makes the most adorable 'Gremlin' noises when she's happy. Please refer to the earlier mention of Pig Baby. She also has a signature move, "The Gremlin Grab." If she is sitting near you, she will take your hand/arm in her paw, squeeze her toes tight, and pull you close. Another great Gremlin attribute is her smooches. She doesn't so much as lick as gums you. You see, she's missing her bottom incisors, and when she is really happy, she will gently gum your arm or cheek and make sure you know she loves you so much!
Tootsie loves being outside! Her favorite pastime is chasing her foster siblings in the yard and hiding in the garden. When it is time to go in, she can often be found hiding in the bushes and pretending she is deaf. When Foster Ma finds her, she rolls on her side and offers a Gremlin high-five. Foster Ma thinks it is ridiculous, but Tootsie thinks it's hilarious! I told you she was silly!
Tootsie's foster home has a dog door; if she has access to it, she consistently goes outside to potty. On rare occasions when the dog door is closed, Tootsie will go to the back door and hope we notice her. If only she would make a noise or scratch at the door, but that hasn't occurred to her yet. It will take time, routine, and consistency at her new home to help her learn the ins and outs of pottying outside. Tootsie sleeps quietly in her kennel overnight and during the day while her foster family works. She has recently mastered the dog stairs in Foster Ma's bedroom and can often be found sleeping on her bed. She says she'd like to sleep with her forever family but will let them decide what is best. Walking on a leash is still new to her; she can do it, but not well, and will do better with practice, especially if she has a buddy to walk with. Tootsie does not do well as an 'Only Child' and will require a resident dog to be considered for adoption. She may one day be able to be alone, but she may not. Only time will tell.
Tootsie is a good girl with a big heart who is ready to be your girl.
While in foster care, all our dogs are thoroughly vetted. Any discovered medical issues will be disclosed above. Our Lucky Bulldogs (and their smushie-faced buddies) are cleared by their vet for adoption prior to us accepting applications. All our dogs will be up to date on Rabies & DHPP vaccinations, up to date on Heartworm preventative after a negative Heartworm test, and spayed or neutered prior to being adopted out to their forever homes. Often times, our dogs are given dentals and sometimes nare-widening surgery if needed while under anesthesia. All surgical and medical history we have will be shared with adopters. Further details can be discussed with the foster volunteer during the phone interview for the applications that are chosen to proceed to the phone interview part of the adoption process.
All our dogs are crate trained unless otherwise noted on their "All About" pages.
We typically will accept applications for our available dogs for 1-2 weeks except in cases of overwhelming popularity where we may stop accepting new applicants sooner. Once we have stopped accepting applications, we will review them and proceed with a phone call with our top applications to chat about the dog being applied for, go over the adoption process, and answer any questions the potential adopter has. After phone calls take place, we will decide on our top applicant choice and proceed to contact them to schedule a home visit (in person or via video chat), and check vet and personal references before the adoption is ready to be completed. This process can take up to 6 weeks, but we do notify all applicants of the outcome.
