Travis Kelce (the pug, not Taylor Swifts boyfriend) is a former commercial breeding dog who is a happy, playful, and curious guy. While slow to warm up to people, his personality shines once he is comfortable in his environment. He is extremely shy at first and is still timid around humans or in unknown environments but soon becomes your best friend after a few seconds of pets. Travis LOVES his chew toys (bones specifically), cuddling on the couch, and napping in the sun. He also loves walks, and he has done an amazing job learning how to walk on a leash. If Travis had it his way, he would be exploring all the plants, sidewalks, and grass all day! One thing he does love more than a good walk is an evening cuddled up next to his foster mom and brother. Travis absolutely loves to snuggle up, and if allowed, he will sleep curled up by your legs all night long. When it’s time for foster mom to get up for the day, an alarm clock is not even needed as Travis loves to slowly crawl on her chest and lick her face to help her wake up. Travis is truly the sweetest, most loving boy who would thrive in a home that is patient, loving, and gives him a lot of attention and cuddles.
Travis is an extremely healthy and happy dog. He has been neutered, microchipped, and has received a dental. In this dental, the vet pulled 6 teeth, but he does not seem to have any problem chewing his food. He is also current on all his shots. During the day, Travis is crated while his foster mom is at work, which he does great with! Travis does not mind being crated and has never once had an accident in his crate. Although it seems like he is picking up potty training, Travis’ foster mom keeps him in a belly band when he is out of his crate. She believes this could be because she has a male dog of her own, but this problem has decreased since his neuter. When kept on a consistent schedule, he has done great with potty training but will still have the occasional accident in the house as he is still learning. At night, he is content sleeping in bed with foster mom and brother but would also be fine sleeping in his crate.
While Travis’ personality has started to show, he is still affected by his past. New people, loud noises, or sudden movements make him extremely anxious. When this happens, he tends to plant his paws into the ground and refuse to move or he will sit in a corner with his head down. He is still cautious with new activities and environments but seems to warm up quicker when shown some love by his favorite humans. Travis does great with other dogs, although cats are still unknown given Travis’ submissive demeaner his foster mom does not think they would be an issue. Travis would do best in a home with older children who are able to allow him patience to open up and respect his boundaries. He would also do great as a single pet or with other fur siblings who love to cuddle as much as he does. With time and some love and patience, Travis will thrive and embrace his new pet life!
While in foster care, all our dogs are thoroughly vetted. Any discovered medical issues will be disclosed above. Our Lucky Bulldogs (and their smushie-faced buddies) are cleared by their vet for adoption prior to us accepting applications. All our dogs will be up to date on Rabies & DHPP vaccinations, up to date on Heartworm preventative after a negative Heartworm test, and spayed or neutered prior to being adopted out to their forever homes. Often times, our dogs are given dentals and sometimes nare-widening surgery if needed while under anesthesia. All surgical and medical history we have will be shared with adopters. Further details can be discussed with the foster volunteer during the phone interview for the applications that are chosen to proceed to the phone interview part of the adoption process.
All our dogs are crate trained unless otherwise noted on their "All About" pages.
We typically will accept applications for our available dogs for 1-2 weeks except in cases of overwhelming popularity where we may stop accepting new applicants sooner. Once we have stopped accepting applications, we will review them and proceed with a phone call with our top applications to chat about the dog being applied for, go over the adoption process, and answer any questions the potential adopter has. After phone calls take place, we will decide on our top applicant choice and proceed to contact them to schedule a home visit (in person or via video chat), and check vet and personal references before the adoption is ready to be completed. This process can take up to 6 weeks, but we do notify all applicants of the outcome.
